Strategic Space Symposium to Look at Space from a Warfighter's Perspective

OMAHA, Neb./COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 8, 2009) - The upcoming Strategic Space Symposium will include a luncheon featuring two high-ranking military leaders who will look at how space serves the needs of today's warfighters.

Lt. Gen. Larry James, USAF, commander, Joint Functional Component Command - Space for the United States Strategic Command, and Lt. Gen. Kevin Campbell, USA, commander, Joint Functional Component Command - Integrated Missile Defense, will share the spotlight at the Nov. 4 luncheon, which is co-sponsored by Raytheon and open to all Strategic Space Symposium attendees.

William G. Hart, vice president and general manager, Space Systems, Space and Airborne Systems for the Raytheon Company will serve as corporate host for the luncheon.

The Symposium, which is jointly sponsored by the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and the Space Foundation, will be held Nov. 2 - 4 at the Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

About Campbell
Campbell is commanding general of the United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command and commander of the Joint Functional Component Command - Integrated Missile Defense. His previous assignments include chief of staff, USSTRATCOM; director of plans, United States Space Command; deputy commanding general, United States Army Air Defense Artillery Center; commanding general, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command; assistant deputy chief of staff for Combat Developments, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command. Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Worcester State College and a master's degree in personnel management from the University of New Hampshire.

About James
James is commander, 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic), Air Force Space Command, and commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space, USSTRATCOM. Prior to his current assignment, James was a vice commander, 5th Air Force, and deputy commander, 13th Air Force. His career also includes serving as a space shuttle payload specialist; Air Staff program element monitor; Global Positioning System satellite program manager; and chief of operations, 14th Air Force.  James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in astronautical engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree in astronautical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
