National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Director and USSTRATCOM Global Operations Deputy Director Slated to Speak at Strategic Space Symposium

OMAHA, Neb./COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 19, 2009) - Two speakers with major strategic responsibility for how the military uses space to support tactical operations have been added to the agenda for the Strategic Space Symposium Nov. 2 - 4, 2009, at the Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

Vice Adm. Robert B. Murrett, USN, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, will give a Combat Support Agency Perspective on the morning of Nov. 4. His organization manages and provides imagery and geospatial information for the military, as well as for diverse civil and international needs.

Brig. Gen. Michael J. Carey, USAF, deputy director, Global Operations, Global Operations Directorate, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), will moderate the View from the Front: Deployed Enlisted/Officer Space Operator Perspectives panel that afternoon. The Global Operations Directorate coordinates planning, employment, and operation of Department of Defense strategic assets and provides integrated plans and operations across space, nuclear, and cyber operations. The directorate is responsible for coordinated space, information capabilities, network operations, and global strike in support of deterrent and decisive national security objectives.

About Murrett
Prior to his appointment as the director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Murrett served as the director of Naval Intelligence; the vice director for Intelligence, J2, on the Joint Staff; director for Intelligence, U.S. Joint Forces Command; commander, Atlantic Intelligence Command; director, Intelligence Directorate, Office of Naval Intelligence; chief of Naval Operations Staff as executive assistant to the director of Naval Intelligence. Murrett earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Buffalo and master's degrees in government and strategic intelligence from Georgetown University and the Defense Intelligence College, respectively.

About Carey
Carey is the deputy director, Global Operations, Global Operations Directorate, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. Previously, he served as the director, Current Operations (J3B), USSTRATCOM; commander, 90th Space Wing, F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.; and director of Space Forces, Combined Air Operations Center, Southwest Asia. Carey earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Fla.; a master of public administration degree from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Okla.; and a master's degree in national security and strategic studies, with distinction, from the Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
